Transport in Phimai – the trishaw

In Phimai town you will see trishaws plying their trade. The Thai word for trishaw is sam lor (สามล้อ) which means ‘three wheels’. Trishaws are pedal powered three wheeled cycles in which the customers sit in the back and the trishaw driver pedals the trishaw around the town. I am told that a typical price for a route in Phimai town is about 10 baht.

Sport – running the Phimai circuit

Local runners and sports enthusiasts organise a series of 5km road running races in Phimai town. There are 3 races held two months apart. The series is called the Phimai Circuit.

The ‘circuit’ for 2012 is:

Phimai 5km running race circuit

In 2012, all three races start from outside Phimai hospital and start at 6am.

The races are very popular with young people. Hundreds of school children turn up and run (or walk) around the course.  Perhaps they hope to win the small cash prizes for the winners at the end of the year or perhaps they just like the  comeraderie of running together early in the morning.

Note: There is also a 5km and 10km race in early December. This usually corresponds with World AIDS day. World AIDS day this year is on the first of December.
