Another tree in bloom in Phimai this month has been the Lagerstroemia Loudonii variety of crepe myrtle (เสลา – salao). The tree’s longitudinally fissured bark helps distinguish the salao from other crepe myrtle varieties in Thailand with similar looking flowers.
One of my favourite plants in bloom in Phimai this month has been the Golden Shower Tree (Cassia fistula / ราชพฤกษ์ – Ratchapreuk). The flower of the Golden Shower Tree is the national flower of Thailand.
