The dates for this year’s Phimai Circuit 5km road race series are:

There are various age groups for male and female runners. There is a junior age group for boys or girls 15 years old and under, then a 16-29 years old age group, 30-34 years, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64 for men, 60 and over for women, 65 and over for men.

This year the races start from near Phimai Hospital. The route is shown below.

Phimai “mini-marathon” 2017

Early this morning, Phimai town hosted some road races; 10.5km, 5km and a 4km fun run.

There was a big turnout.

Gyms and fitness centres in Phimai town

There are now four gyms in Phimai town and they are located quite close to each other.

MJ Fitness is located on Anantachinda Road, at the junction with Soi Sangat-pattana. It’s about 250m from Phimai Medical hospital. MJ Fitness is open from 9am to 10pm. It costs 50 baht per day, 799 baht per month.

Phimai Fitness is located in a small road adjacent to Anantachinda Road. It’s about 100m from Phimai Medical hospital. Phimai Fitness is open from 11am to 9pm Mon to Fri, 12pm to 7pm on Saturdays. It costs 40 baht per day, 100 baht for 3 days, 495 baht per month.

Iron Gym is located opposite the old cinema, at the junction of Haruethairom Road and Suriya-atsadong Road. The entrance is on Haruethairom Road. Iron Gym is open from 10am to 10pm every day. It costs 30 baht per day, 690 baht per month.

City Gym is located on Suriya-atsadong Road, about 400m from Iron Gym. City Gym is open from 10am to 9pm every day. It costs 40 baht per day, 699 baht per month.

City Gym has moved location. It is now located on SophonKrota Road, opposite Burapa Pimon temple, and next to Bird-Bird cafe and barber shop. Below is a Google map link to the new location.

Volleyball in Phimai – April 2017

This week sees the return of of the annual volleyball competition in Phimai town, which is organised by the local government (tetsaban tambon Phimai).  The volleyball court is set up in the town centre at laan mayn-promatat, the area of land beside the town clock.

The matches are scheduled to start at 5.30pm and go on until quite late in the evening. The competition this year takes place between the 18th and 26th of April 2017.

The Phimai circuit is a series of  three 5km road running races in Phimai town.  The races are held two months apart. The dates for this year’s Phimai circuit road races are below.

Volleyball – the Phimai Cup 2016

This weekend sees the start of the annual Phimai Cup volleyball competition in Phimai town, organised by the local government (tetsaban tambon Phimai).  The volleyball court is set up in the town centre at laan promatat, the area of land beside the town clock.

There are different categories in the competition:

• Primary school boys and primary school girls
• Local male teams and local female teams
• Open male teams and open female teams

The matches are scheduled to start at 5pm and finish around 9pm. According to the advertising sign above, the competition takes place over 11 days, from 19 to 30 March. However, information from the local authority has the last day as Sunday 27 of March.

The Phimai circuit 2015

The second race in this year’s series of 5km road running races in Phimai town took place this morning starting from in front of the Phimai Hospital.

The full race calendar for the 2015 Phimai circuit is:

3. Saturday 26 September

Racing is scheduled to start at 06.00.

Registration takes place in the hospital car park on the morning of the race.

Longboat racing in Phimai

Phimai is a great place to see longboat racing. Every year during the Phimai festival in November there is longboat racing. This weekend (11-12 October) saw 2 days of longboat racing in gra-bueang-yai (กระเบื้องใหญ่),  a small village about 4 miles from Phimai town.

The event was held to mark the end of Buddhist Lent (ork pansa –ออกพรรษา), which was on 8th October this year.

It was the 16th annual longboat racing event to be held in gra-bueang-yai, Phimai district.

Next month will see the Phimai festival in Phimai town. Longboat racing is scheduled for 6-9 November in the usual location, Lam Jakarat, with access from Anantachinda Road or nearby. Good views of the racing can be had from the bridge on Anantachinda Road. For details of the 2014 Phimai festival see here:

The Phimai circuit 2014

Local runners and sports enthusiasts organise a series of 5km road running races in Phimai town. There are 3 races held two months apart. The series is called the Phimai Circuit.

Points are awarded to runners based on their finishing position in the race and small cash prizes are awarded for age group winners at the end of the year.  These races are popular with young people and hundreds of school children run or walk around the course.

The Phimai circuit for 2014 is:

1. Saturday 24 May

2. Saturday 26 July

3. Saturday 27 September

The races are organised by the Phimai Hospital and start and finish in front of it at 6am. Registration takes place in the hospital car park.
